How to: Saving on Wines

In our house, we love our red wines! If you'd like to learn about saving on wines, this post is for you. For the first few years after moving to New York, we resorted to using small, always full-priced local liquor stores to buy our wine, after no longer having the option of picking up wine in the grocery store as we used to do. If you’re not familiar with the difference in the areas, Publix and other grocery stores down in Florida are well-stocked with a selection of wine and liquor, while New York only allows beers and a very limited wine selection in grocery stores. However, after learning how to take advantage of the great offers Total Wine and More has available, I’m glad I’ve lost the grocery store option! Read ahead to learn in minutes what took me months to discover:

Mix 6 deal! (It pays to stock up)
As of this posting date, Total Wine and More has a standing deal called Mix 6 on select products. Any six bottles of liquor with this tag/sale label will be reduced by 10% off its already-low price. Total Wine’s pricing per ml is no different for 1.5L sized bottles and 750ml bottles. However, while the price is $16.99 for a 1.5L bottle bought separately, it will only cost $15.29/bottle when six bottles are purchased. I take advantage of this by buying once a month and stocking up. While it costs over $20 for each bottle of my favorite brand at other stores, the starting cost of $16.99 would be a savings on its own. With the additional Mix 6 discount, this really adds up!

Digital coupons!
I always check these on the site before shopping, because they are ever-evolving. Coupons like 10% off rum and PayPal rebates on specific bottle brands are always popping up

Collections!
On Total Wine’s savings page, you can scroll down to find additional savings, like their Curated Collections. For example, the Top Cabernets Under $12 here offers $4 off when you buy both offers in the collection. Please note though, that you cannot stack this savings with the Mix 6, for which these wines are eligible. Believe me, I tried.

Overall, I cannot go wrong when I shop Total Wines and more for my liquor cabinet needs. If you shop smart like this, you can stay well-stocked without having to break the bank.

If you know of other liquor stores or online vendors who distribute for better prices, I would love to learn about them (and hopefully they're available near me). Please drop your favorite place to buy wine in the comments.
